7th new recipe of 2017! We like hibachi fried rice so I did a google search to find some recipes and techniques.
Many online recipes say to use day old rice- not because you have it on hand but because it "works better". We didn't find much of a difference from new vs old rice. We actually had more rice pieces that were hard when we used old rice.
Overall it was relatively simple. I bought Tamari instead of using Kikkoman soy sauce since it's supposed to be less salty.
Oil and butter
2 cups cooked rice
2 eggs
Garlic Powder
Salt and Pepper
2 Tbsp Soy Sauce
(then we asked Judy, our waitress at the Chinese restaurant and she also suggested using Teryaki sauce so I also used some of that on the second try)
Pour some oil in the pan. Fry the egg, take it out of the pan and chop into small pieces. Add some butter to the now empty pan, stir in the rice, add the egg back in, season with garlic, salt and pepper, pour the soy sauce & teryaki sauces over the rice. Done. It's really that simple. It doesn't taste exact to the hibachi, but good enough for us. We had it with leftover chicken one night and a few weeks later with beef tips.
